RE: Criticism of Israel isn't anti-Semitic ... necessarily

You are missing the point. As others have noted, there's a huge and hypocritical double standard in how progressive opinion regards antisemitism depending on who is peddling it. The antisemitism of the Right is considered morally repugnant and intrinsically threatening. So far so good. But the antisemitism of the Left is very often ignored, explained away, or dismissed as a regrettable excess.

If the exact same rancid racism happening at Columbia were happening against Jews, but at a southern university, led by white MAGA supporters, it would be viewed and treated *very* differently by progressives and the MSM.

The "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville — a disgusting but small-scale event — caused a near-national crisis. According to Joe Biden, it was such a galvanizing moment that it, and Trump's tepid response to it, prompted him to run for president.

Admittedly, the protests at Columbia have been criticized in some quarters, but they have also attracted enormous sympathy, most notably from supportive left-wing members of Congress and the school's own faculty. Moreover, 1,400 academics from a variety of schools are clamoring for a boycott of Columbia for allegedly being much too tough on the protesters.
