Ferenc could be talking about both.

As I see it the dedicated streamer makes no difference provided they are running the same embedded platform (Linux / Android). Most run a form of Linux. And since there are no 'cloud platforms' that I know of that run Android, Ferenc must be talking about the streamers here.

He also compares Tidal & Qobuz saying there should be no meaningful difference. But then he goes on about having a dozen different streamers from lo-fi cheapies to $30K audiophile units.

So should there be no difference between the streaming services -AND- no difference between the the network streamers? Why would he mention the dozen streamers if they are not part of the comparison? Please ask him to clarify.

Of course it wouldn't be right for a reviewer to not 'hear' a difference between a $100 streamer and $30K unit ;-)

And as I mentioned previously there are some high-end manufacturers [Bryston / Boulder] that use the hobby Raspberry Pi board as the heart of their streaming product. They must have come to the same conclusion as I did. The DIY Raspberry Pi streamer 'sounds' as good as high-end audiophile brands.
