I didn't have to spend quite as much time per album. Once I had the cover artwork and some basic metadata assigned to each file I could change any number of file ID-tags at once and do the same with file names using the batch modes of Mp3tag and Bulk Rename Utility. Otherwise, as you point out, it can be a daunting task trying to find errors and edit every album and/or file individually.

I tend not to include detailed metadata because you can always do an internet search to find specific information about an album or artist. And I keep a spreadsheet with basic information about each album, which can be used as a reference for adding/editing metadata.
